Govt says no World Bank-assisted funds allocated for tourism development

Srinagar, Feb 20 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday said that no World Bank-assisted funds have been allocated or received specifically for tourism development in the Union Territory. Replying to the starred question tabled by MLA Mian Mehar Ali in the Assembly regarding tourism promotion initiatives, the Minister Incharge, Tourism Department, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), stated that no World Bank-assisted funds have been earmarked exclusively for tourism development in Jammu and Kashmir. The query had sought clarification on whether World Bank funds allocated for tourism development could be utilised for promoting trekking and eco-tourism projects, including the development of the Seven Lakes Trek, and if so, the timeline and prospective benefits of such a project. In response, the government categorically stated that no such funds have been allocated or received specifically for tourism development in J&K—(KNO)
